Paws-itively Perfect: Preparing Your Pet for Their Upcoming Photo Shoot

As pet owners, we know our furry (or scaly, or feathered!) friends are part of the family. A professional pet photoshoot is a fantastic way to capture their unique personality and the special bond you share. To ensure your pet is happy, comfortable, and ready for their close-up with DIG Entertainment, here are some key tips to prepare for their big day.
1. Grooming for the Spotlight
Just like humans, pets look their best when they're well-groomed.
Brushing: Give your pet a good brush a day or two before the shoot to remove loose fur and make their coat shiny.
Bathing: If your pet needs a bath, do it a couple of days beforehand, not the day of the shoot, to allow their fur to dry completely and settle.
Nails: Trim their nails to prevent scratches, especially if they'll be interacting closely with people or furniture.
Eyes & Ears: Gently clean around their eyes and ears if needed.
The goal is to make them look neat and tidy, but also natural and comfortable.
2. Exercise Before the Session
A tired pet is usually a well-behaved pet! Take your dog for a good walk or play session a few hours before the photoshoot. For cats or smaller pets, engage them in some active play to burn off excess energy. This helps them be more relaxed and cooperative during the shoot, making it easier to capture those perfect, calm, or playful shots. Avoid overly strenuous exercise right before the shoot, as an exhausted pet might look droopy.
3. Pack Their Favorites (Treats & Toys!)
Bribery works wonders in pet photography! Bring an ample supply of your pet's favorite high-value treats. Small, easily digestible treats are best. Also, bring their favorite toys – squeaky toys, crinkle balls, or anything that grabs their attention. These can be invaluable for getting their focus, encouraging specific actions, and capturing their playful side.
4. Familiarize & Acclimate
If the photoshoot is happening in an unfamiliar location (like a studio or park), try to arrive a little early to let your pet explore and get comfortable with their surroundings. This can reduce anxiety. If the shoot is at home, ensure the space is clutter-free and ready for photography.
5. Keep Them Hydrated and Potty-Break Ready
Ensure your pet has access to water before and during the session. For dogs, make sure they've had a recent potty break right before the shoot begins to avoid any accidents and allow them to focus.
6. Stay Patient and Positive
The most important "prop" you can bring is your own positive attitude. Pets pick up on our energy. Remain calm, patient, and encouraging throughout the session. We understand that pets can be unpredictable, and that's part of their charm! Our photographers at DIG Entertainment are experienced in working with animals and will take the time needed to get those "paws-itively perfect" shots.
By following these tips, you'll help ensure your pet is happy, cooperative, and ready for a fun and successful photoshoot, resulting in beautiful memories you'll cherish forever.
